Commander, Massachusetts Army National Guard

BRIGADIER GENERAL MARK E. KALIN 

 

BG Kalin attended One Station Unit Training at FT Benning, Georgia and served in the 104th Infantry as a Rifleman, Team Leader, and Squad Leader before earning his commission from OCS Class 65 in 1998.

His command and key staff assignments include: Commander, Charlie Company, 104th Infantry; Commander, Bravo Company, 104th Infantry; Executive Officer of both 181st and 182nd Infantry Battalions; 1st WMD-CST Operations Officer and Deputy Commander; Commander, 182nd Infantry; Deputy G3; J3/DOMS; Chief of the Joint Staff; G3; Commander, 51st Troop Command; Commander, 26th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade; and Land Component Commander.

His mobilizations include: A/1-104th Infantry Rifle Platoon Leader in support of Operation Joint Forge, Bosnia-Herzegovina; C/1-104th Infantry Rifle Company Commander in support of Operation Noble Eagle; and 181st Infantry Executive Officer and Camp Julien-Dubs Commander in support of Operation Enduring Freedom – Afghanistan.

BG Kalin holds Masters Degrees in Emergency Management and Strategic Studies from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and United States Army War College respectively.

BG Kalin is a fully Joint Qualified Officer and recently served as a Dual Status Commander under Joint Task Force Civil Support for COVID response operations. He is a graduate of the Infantry Officer Basic Course, Infantry Officer Advanced Course, Command and General Staff Officer Course, Advanced Operations Course, Reserve Component National Security Course, Advanced Joint Professional Military Education, the Defense Strategy Course, Harvard’s Leadership in Homeland Security course, the Senior Officer Legal Orientation course, Joint Task Force Commander’s Training Course, Dual Status Command Orientation Course and the United States Army War College.  He has also completed dozens of courses in the WMD, CBRNE, and DSCA disciplines.

His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Expert Infantry Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, Excellence in Competition Badges for both rifle and pistol disciplines, Governor’s Twenty tab, and the German Armed Forces Proficiency Badge.  He is also a recipient of the National Infantry Association’s Order of Saint Maurice and a member of the Massachusetts Regional Training Institute Hall of Fame.
